#10906 15"x15.5" Bora ring basket, Bora Indians, Peruvian Amazon rain forest, 20thC vintage, twill weave with strips of the bajyuhaba plant, a type of palm, (Carludovica palmata), it resembles ring baskets by other Native peoples of the Americas including the Hopi and Cherokee, other plaques like this are given as gifts, used to offer food, and hung on display, this one too has a loop for hanging, near mint condition $85.00

The plant strips are naturally tan on one side and black on the other.

The black side of the plant strip is scraped which makes the design from the back very pale.

Many thanks to Paulus Gerdes and his article "Geometrical aspects of Bora basketry in the Peruvian Amazon".
