#9932 | 15" round | A large Hopi Indians plaque, hand woven of bundle coiled grass and sewn with yucca, SW United States, early 20thC, this is probably a wedding plaque due to it's large size and floral design that continues to the outer edge of the plaque, it would be heaped with corn meal, and presented from the bride's family to the groom's mother in a payback ceremony, however, the plaque itself (i.e.. the bride) is always the property of the groom, large floral designs have often been symbolic of female fertility and blossoming youth, very good condition with only minor dings and some fading of colors, size 15" round, #9932 | $550.00 |
