#4009 8"x4" Klamath Indians cooking basket, Northern California, USA, ca.1880, hand twined spruce root decorated with bear grass in half twist overlay, stones would be heated in the fire, and then placed in the basket, acorns could be heated and roasted this way, or water could be heated to cook food, there is some damage along the rim, the wear pattern is consistent with stress from use, and given the great age, we can be a little forgiving of the condition, size 8in x 4in, #4009 $450.00

The wear in the basket is right where you would expect if it were used for scooping.
