#10-HOF | 48"x25" | Indian Toran, embroidered silk and mirror work on cotton, a tribal dowry weaving from 19thC Western India, used as a door hanging, valance, or wall decoration, very graphic geometric design, each minor panel has an interesting design including a tree of life with birds, and three lobed Cintamani design, some acceptable wear from use | $125.00 |
There are some people that are beginning to call these a wedding trapping or Asmalyk.
When hung over a door, it is thought to be a good omen, inviting the gods into the home.
The central yellow panel has a 3 lobed design called Cintamani, which is thought to represent leopard spots.
The last panel on the right has a tree of life design, with two birds at the top.
One panel is worn, but I think that is because it is a recycled piece of a much earlier fine textile.
The life like boteh in the worn silk, seems very Mughal.
